The mission behind LactateThreshold

Sport science for everyone โ€” no lab, no sport scientist, no spreadsheet.

Kristian Hoffmann

Founder & Developer

Iโ€™m Kristian Hoffmann, and I build LactateThreshold out of my own endurance training. It started with one question: why should analyzing a lactate test cost 150โ€“300 EUR in a lab when the methods behind it are published sport science? Mader, Dickhuth, Dmax and the others are peer-reviewed and decades old. So every method in the app carries its literature reference, and you see the spread between methods instead of one black-box number. If something in your analysis looks wrong, write to me directly.

Why LactateThreshold?

LactateThreshold started with a simple question: why should professional lactate test analysis cost 150โ€“300 EUR in a lab when the underlying algorithms are published sport science? Methods by Mader, Dickhuth, Dmax and others are peer-reviewed and established for decades. They do not need to stay hidden behind a lab. LactateThreshold makes these algorithms accessible to everyone: free, transparent and usable without technical background.

Our principles

Scientific

All 6 methods are published and tested against MLSS. No black box, no proprietary algorithm.

Transparent

The calculations are traceable. You see which method produced which result and why.

Accessible

The base analysis is and remains free. Professional diagnostics should not depend on budget.

What we build

LactateThreshold is a web app that analyzes lactate curves from step tests scientifically. You enter your measurements โ€” power or pace, lactate value and optionally heart rate โ€” and immediately receive LT1, LT2, training zones and race-pace guidance using 6 published methods.

For coaches, there is a coach view with athlete management, test comparisons over time and export features. Everything runs in the browser โ€” no installation required. When optional AI analysis is used, the required test data is sent to the AI provider.

Kristian Hoffmann

Founder & Developer

LactateThreshold is built by Kristian Hoffmann โ€” out of first-hand experience in endurance sport and the conviction that valid performance diagnostics should not stay locked behind lab prices. Every analysis method is backed by peer-reviewed literature and transparently documented โ€” no black box, no made-up algorithms.
