Lactate test mistakes: the most common causes of wrong thresholds

Many poor analyses are caused not by the software, but by sampling problems, unsuitable stages or misread curves.

Sampling errors

A poor blood sample, squeezing the fingertip or contaminated skin can distort lactate values.

  • Discard the first blood drop
  • Do not squeeze or smear the sample
  • Fill the test strip immediately and completely

Protocol errors

Stages that are too short or jumps that are too large make the curve hard to interpret.

  • Use at least 3 minutes per stage
  • Use 20-30 watts or moderate pace jumps
  • Do not start too hard

Analyze your own lactate values

Enter pace or power and your measured lactate values. LactateThreshold calculates lactate curve, LT1, LT2, VLamax and training zones.

Why you can trust the analysis

LactateThreshold does not turn measurements into false precision. The app shows the curve, method comparison, plausible thresholds and the limits of your test protocol transparently.

Method comparison instead of a single black-box value
Clear separation of LT1, LT2, VLamax and training zones
Limits of self-testing are stated openly
Training guidance, not a medical diagnosis

Frequently asked questions

What is the most common mistake?

Sample quality. A squeezed or contaminated blood drop can strongly distort individual values.

Can the software detect outliers?

It can make implausible curves visible. The final assessment still depends on the test context.
