Baseline 1.0 mmol/L (measured)
| Stage | Power (W) | Lactate 5' → Lactate 10' | Rise 5'→10' (Tolerance) | above baseline | HR / RPE | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 193 W | 1.1 → 1.0 | -0.10 (≤ 0.36) | 0.0 | – / 10 | below LT1 |
| 2 | 203 W | 1.2 → 1.3 | +0.10 (≤ 0.38) | +0.3 | – / 11 | below LT1 |
| 3 | 213 W | 1.5 → 2.0 | +0.50 (≤ 0.42) | +1.0 | – / 12 | above LT1 |
Criterion: below LT1 lactate does not rise from 5' to 10' beyond measurement precision (at least 0.3 mmol/L; derived from the repeatability of hand-held analysers, Bonaventura et al. 2015) and stays at most 0.5 mmol/L above baseline (a fixed rise above baseline as criterion for the first lactate rise, cf. Faude et al. 2009; Jamnick et al. 2018). Between +0.5 and +1.0 the stage counts as borderline. There is no dedicated validation study for exactly this protocol; the tolerance is derived from the measurement error.
LT2 in the step test already matches this value.

Beneke 2003: 30-minute constant-load test; lactate may rise by at most 1.0 mmol/L between minute 10 and 30. Calculation aid only, nothing is stored.
Based on 2 comparison pairs. Plan at least 3 linked MLSS tests for stable recommendations.
Ranking uses absolute deviation from the MLSS value. The best match is highlighted in green. MLSS itself has day-to-day variation of ±3–8 W (bike) or ±5–10 s/km (run); collect at least 3 comparison pairs for stable method recommendations.

How does the calculation method affect your threshold estimate? These are six ways of analysing the same measurements.
The values depend on the calculation method. They show neither a change in your performance nor a recommended training range.

Rounded to whole seconds or watts. Values displayed as equal may differ before rounding.
This comparison cannot decide that. Additional constant-load tests can check whether an estimate matches your sustainable intensity limit (MLSS tests). Scientific background ↗
